BIOASSAYS:
Microscopy assessments of soil root zone (rhizosphere) mycorrhial fungal populations
Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) populations were examined in soil samples collected from undisturbed pastures & compared with mycorrhizas from soils from adjacent fields under summer fallow - i.e. prolonged soil disturbance & vegetation clearance
Disection microscope view of an unsquashed Maize root segment observed in a Petri dish. In order to enable transparent viewing into and through plant root cells, the cytoplasm is cleared with 10% KOH & heated at high temperature under pressure. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) were then stained with Chlorzal Black E.
